Hello! My name is Carrie Shelhart and I am
overjoyed to be the new youth minister at St. Teresa. I am excited to be part
of this vibrant and creative community, and cannot wait to meet all of you. So
here’s a little about me:
I grew up in lovely Lowell, Indiana with my parents and two older
sisters. I was an active member of St. Edward Parish and the youth ministry
program at St. Eds. In high school I served as a representative on the Diocesan
Youth Council and became very involved with the Diocese of Gary’s
Catholic Youth Xperience. It was in high school, through positive models of
faith and ministry, that I first had the thought, “maybe
I’ll be a youth minister.”
I followed that call to Marian University in Indianapolis where I
became part of a community for future church leaders, the San Damiano Scholars
Program. After a lot of major changes I graduated with a degree in Graphic
Design and minors in Pastoral Leadership and Peace and Justice Studies. My
involvement in service work in two Indianapolis parishes, and other social
service agencies reaffirmed my call to ministry and working with youth. I am
convinced that youth have a very special role to play in the life of the church
and I look forward to supporting the youth of St. Teresa in their journeys of
faith.
Now for a few fun facts about myself, this might be something to keep
to myself, but I am a Cubs fan! I love all sports especially volleyball and
softball, but watch out I tend to be a bit competitive! I am madly in love with
modern art especially impressionist artists. I love to draw, paint, design,
make anything three-dimensional, and take lots and lots of pictures.
